BAR HARBOR — Online ridesharing service Uber announced its expansion to Down East Maine last week. Users can open the Uber app on a mobile device and request a ride from the nearest private citizen driver. There is a fee.
Bar Harbor police logged two complaints about the service last week, including one from a driver for a local taxi service. Local regulations require all taxi and car service operations to be licensed.
Town officials said they are looking into the matter.
Last fall, Uber received an “F” rating from the Better Business Bureau, which cited the company’s lack of responsiveness to pricing complaints in San Francisco.
