Town supports sign projects

TREMONT – Selectmen on Monday voted unanimously to support two different sign projects in the town.

Mount Desert Island High School student Caleb Graham detailed his plans to construct and erect welcome signs at the entrances to town. Graham said he is doing the project to fulfill graduation requirements and to support his bid to become an Eagle Scout.

John MacDuffie, president of the Tremont Historical Society, told selectmen the society would like to put up signs marking the boundaries of the villages within the town. The signs would be helpful to visitors to the society’s museum who often don’t realize the villages are part of the town of Tremont, he said.

The historical society would donate $500 to offset the cost of the signs.

“I think it’s a great project,” chairman Kathi Thurston said before the board approved the request.
