The Jesup needs help

BAR HARBOR — The Jesup Memorial Library has begun a mail solicitation for donations to support library operations.

At the Jesup, patrons are welcome to peruse periodicals, use a library computer, connect to free Wi-Fi, read classic novels or recent bestsellers, bring children in for special programming, attend a contra dance, hear a concert, meet New York Times bestselling and emerging authors, listen to live poetry, attend movie screenings, see slideshows, engage in community forums, join a knitting group and more.

While these events are free and open to the public, they do cost money. Although it has always served as the public library for Bar Harbor, the Jesup is a private nonprofit that gets less than 5 percent of its annual budget from the town. The library needs the people’s help ensuring that Bar Harbor has a place where everyone has equal access to the many resources it has to offer.

Anyone who does not receive a letter but still would like to donate should stop by the library, call 288-4245 or email [email protected]
