Thanksgiving feast planned

Our Island Community Thanksgiving will be held in the Swans Island School gymnasium on Friday, Nov. 18, at 5:30 p.m. Emmie Sawyer, the event’s food coordinator extraordinaire, has requested the following from us: “We are in need of 17 turkeys, including gravy and stuffing, along with 35 pies. If you use personal dishes/cookware, we ask you to please label it with your name to help with a seamless return of your item. We ask everyone who plans to attend to please bring a vegetable to share – the mashed potatoes will be taken care of – but anything simple such as corn, peas, squash, sweet potato, etc., would be greatly appreciated. Very important: We need the food to be delivered to the school kitchen at 5 p.m. If you are able to cook a turkey, stuffing, gravy or a pie, please feel free to let me know on Facebook or call my home (526-4036) between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.; please leave a message if necessary. This wonderful event started years ago, and our community has continued to make it happen year after year. I greatly appreciate everyone’s efforts and look forward to seeing you all at our island Thanksgiving!” We all thank Emmie for her many contributions to our island community.

Douglas Cornman encourages us to submit our poetry, prose, short stories, photography and/or other artwork for the 11th edition of “The Island Reader.” Submissions are due by the end of the year, and Douglas said, “I know that is seven more days than Christmas shopping, but do not delay. The time is now!” You may submit up to three items in any genre or medium; send poetry to [email protected], all other writing to [email protected] and photos/artwork to [email protected]. This is open to all island residents. If you have questions, talk to Gary Rainford or message Douglas.
