Swan’s Island: Young island runners

Douglas Cornman announces a fun event: “Hello Swan’s Island. If you are a middle school student (sixth, seventh or eighth grade) or the parent of one and would like information about Maine Seacoast Mission’s Middle School Retreat happening this Jan. 18-20, please email me at [email protected] It is a fantastic weekend, full of fun activities to help you or your child prepare for high school. We always have a blast. Hope to hear from you soon.”

Some of us Swan’s Islanders were fortunate to have a special trip on Maine Seacoast Mission’s vessel, the Sunbeam, on a recent Sunday evening. They teamed up with the Neighborhood House to give two free rides along Somes Sound in Northeast Harbor to see the Christmas lights along the shoreline. We thank Douglas Cornman, Jillian, Captain Mike Johnson, and engineer Storey King as well as those from the Neighborhood House that made this holiday treat possible.

Jeanne Solberg Hoyle shares the exciting news that her and Gary’s grandson, Zach, has placed as the fastest runner in the national college circuit for the 1-mile, with a time of 4 minutes and 19 seconds. Wow!

Gwen Jane May uses her grandmother’s bragging rights “to congratulate Dori LeMoine for recently breaking St. Joseph’s College’s record in shotput at 9.78 meters.” We are very proud of Dori’s accomplishments and look forward to her next one.

Karen Preston Griffin reminds us: “During this winter season, heating bills can rise very quickly. The MDI Community Campfire Coalition offers assistance. The Town Office has forms available.”

Donna Wiegle informs us: “Coffee Hour at the Clinic will be starting up on Saturday, Jan. 5. Drop in any Saturday until the end of March from 9:30-10:30 a.m. for socialization, coffee, tea, pastries and other goodies. Everyone is welcome.”

Happy birthday to Zoey Isabella Martin, Isaiah Matthew Sawyer, Holly Brianne Kitchen, Grant McKay Joyce, Samuel J.D. Joy, and Gary V. Tapley. Anniversary blessings to Josh and Sarah Joyce and Norman K. and Nancy Burns.
