Swan’s Island: Yacht club is offering free sailing lessons

Liela Banks provides us with details about the Swan’s Island 14th Annual 5K: “On Saturday, July 24, at the Swan’s Island School, we will register 5K participants at 7:30 a.m. and the race starts at 8 a.m. The race theme for this year is ‘Remembering.’ The past year has been one for the books. Our entire lives were changed with the pandemic and many other significant changes. What are you remembering? Traditions put on hold? Loved ones that have passed? Parts of yourself or your faith? Come out and run or walk – every step you take is moving you forward! We are preordering shirts so you can personalize them for race day, if you want. This race is for hope, for perseverance and for remembering what the last year has taught us. Proceeds will benefit Safe Passage. For information, contact Liela Banks on Facebook or cell (207) 479-0389 or my sister Emily Banks.”

Gwen May informs us: “There will be a lawn sale at the Swan’s Island Historical Society (located at 9 North Road) on Friday, July 16, at 1:30 p.m. Please stop by to take things and leave a donation and/or offer your services as we prepare to open shortly.”

Don’t forget that Coffee Love opens for the season this Wednesday, July 14. Located at 713 Atlantic Road (by the garden), Coffee Love will offer coffee drinks and breakfast sandwiches on Wednesdays through Saturdays from 7:30-11:30 a.m. and ice cream on Thursdays and Fridays from 6-8 p.m. How about a Dirty Monkey (toasted English with Nutella and banana) or a Henry Lee (egg, feta, apricot preserves, toasted English) with bacon, chased by a Swan’s Island roasted espresso or Dirty Chai? So many choices . . . thank you Meri and Gary Rainford!

John Good and Lisa Dillon Beliveau have an offer you can’t refuse: “Free Sailing Lessons! The Swan’s Island Yacht Club will once again offer free sailing lessons every Wednesday at 11 a.m. in July and August at Trafton’s Wharf on the Minturn Loop. Please email [email protected] to sign up. Please bring your own PFD (life jacket). Children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult. Children under 12 will sail on Optis and those over 12 will sail on the Mercurys. See you on the water! For more information, check out our FB page at www.facebook.com/Swans-Island-Yacht-Club-348252802272507.”

Happy birthday to Aaron Sheridan, Kristi Sheridan, Belva Staples, Gardner Ellison, Dwight Colbeth and Theresa Karen Joy. Anniversary blessings to Gary and Mimi Rainford and Jodie and Nick Mauger
