Swan’s Island: Town meeting next week

Jane Orcutt Savage delivers a notice from the ferry service: “The captain has requested that all walk-on passengers arrive 15 minutes prior to sailing so that they may be loaded on the boat first and then the cars afterwards. He has requested this for safety reasons and to eliminate the possibility of damage done to vehicles from bags scraping along cars as they are trying to walk through.”

Watch how much that snooze button is hit in the morning so that you aren’t late for the ferry!

We wish our ferry engineer Steven Davis a fond farewell as he departs for a new position with the Maine State Ferry Service. Anyone who has had even a brief conversation with Steve will know what a great addition he was to our ferry team and what a loss we will feel in his absence.

Donna Wiegle encourages our students to apply for Geiger Scholarships by Feb. 28: “Geiger Scholarships for middle school, high school, and college students are available through Island Institute. Scholarships up to $5,000 for summer programs and up to $10,000 for college are available. Please contact the Island Institute at [email protected] for more information.”

Tammy Tripler informs us: “P.I.K. will have lunch available for purchase at the Annual Town Meeting on Monday, March 4. The meal is $10 each and includes a beverage and one dessert. Our menu for this year is homemade mac and cheese, baked beans, hot dogs, chili and biscuits. Beverages are coffee, tea, bottled water, or punch. We will have assorted baked goods for dessert. Breakfast items and coffee/tea, and bottled water will be available before lunch and priced separately.”

Happy belated birthday to Selene Meeks. Happy birthday to Meri Lynn Rainford, Kim Colbeth, Cheri L. Ellison, Cindy Kennedy Niquette, Timothy Treadwell, Wanda Colbeth Gray, Liela Banks, and Emmie McKay Sawyer.
