Swan’s Island: Share your memories with grade school students

Crystal Nelson DaGraca requests our memories: Swan’s Island grades 3-5 need your help! I am setting up virtual meetings with Swan’s Island residents who can share some stories from the past. Transportation is an upcoming topic and I hope to be able to identify some of the individuals in an early picture of the ferry and its riders. If you remember your first ride on the ferry or know someone who does and would be willing to meet with my class virtually, please email me at [email protected] or call me at 812-8939.”

It’s great to have Kim Colbeth home and it has been wonderful seeing her daughter Keyona Bridenstine and children on the island, visiting from Texas —only wish we could keep them here permanently.

Donna Wiegle shares some exciting news: We will be hosting another round of vaccines for those 18 and over at the Mill Pond Health Center, tentatively scheduled for some time the week of April 19. I will have a confirmed date soon and will let everyone who has registered know what the date is, and the time for you to come to the clinic to receive your vaccine. We can only vaccinate those 18 and over as we will most likely have the Moderna vaccine, but possibly could receive the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. These two vaccines are only approved for 18 and over. If you have a child between 16-18 that you would like to have vaccinated, you will need to find a site on the mainland that is giving the Pfizer vaccine, the only vaccine currently approved for 16 and 17 year-olds.

I have 79 people registered for our vaccine clinic later this month. If you have not registered and still want to, contact me at 526-4101, send me a message on Facebook Messenger or email me at [email protected]. If you are currently on my list and you do receive your vaccine on the mainland, please let me know so I can take your name off the list.

Thank you to everyone for your patience in waiting for it to be your turn to receive your vaccination. Dr. Nirav Shah and Gov. Mills, along with all of Maine CDC, have done an amazing job in rolling out the vaccination program in the state. We are well ahead of the schedule at this point and it is great that everyone 16 and over who wants to be vaccinated should be able to achieve that before Memorial Day, the official start of our summer season.

We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Gilbert LeMoine who passed away recently. We also keep Marsha Douty Carlson and her family in our prayers and thoughts with her recent family losses.

Happy birthday to Meredith Creswell, Rena Shaefer, Brian Krafjack, Jen Systma, Amelia Joy, Theo May, Isabella Joyce, Richard Griffin, Laurie Farley, Anna Carr, Bill Banks Jr., Theodore L. Turner, Kenny LeMoine Jr., Leonard M. May II, Leah Marie Ranquist, Gabriella Ruth Joy, Todd Smith, Nancy Colbeth and Luz Denise Harting.
