Gwen May is bragging again about her granddaughter Dori LeMoine: “Saint Joseph’s College freshman Dori LeMoine has recently been selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week. Dori shattered the Monks’ outdoor records in the shot put and hammer throw events in a recent invitational; she already owns the Monks’ outdoor records for javelin throw, shot put, and hammer throw, as well as the indoor shot put mark.”
Way to go, Dori!
She bandages our wounds, she delights us with her artwork, she supports many island organizations, and she’s a friend to many; now she even cooks for our ferry crew: she’s Jill Lewis! Captain Vern Lewis, Bob Dumas, Karl Haller, and their new intermittent engineer wish to thank Lewis for the surprise (and very delicious) lasagna meal with zucchini brownies.
Katelynn Riedel excitedly announces her upcoming nuptials. “James LeMoine and I are having an open wedding! We both have big families and we didn’t want anyone to feel left out, so this was the easiest way to celebrate with everyone that we love. We sent out a few invitations to super close family, but wanted to be able to share with all of you.
“Since our wedding is open to everyone, we are going to need lots of food. If you come, we would really appreciate if you brought something to share with everyone. Also, please let me know if you are coming and what you will bring. No desserts are needed, because we will provide the cake! RSVP by Wednesday, April 17, if you are able to share in our joyous event at noon on Saturday, June 8, at Walterbeaks House, on the Atlantic Loop Road.”
Bev McAloon informs us that the contra dance is rescheduled for this Saturday, April 13, at 6 p.m. in the school gymnasium. “All ages are welcome and we guarantee it will be a fun time.”
We extend our deep condolences to the family and many friends of Onalee “Bonnie” W. Hopkins who passed away at her home on Friday, April 5. Her obituary states that “Bonnie was a beloved wife and wonderful mother with a bright smile for everyone.” I will add that she was a very sweet and lovely woman.
Many people knew Bonnie through her work at the Bass Harbor ferry terminal; she seemed to be making things cleaner or more beautiful with the flowers most of the time, yet she always made time to talk. We send special prayers for her son Lewis Jr. (LJ), who has had ties with Swan’s Island for many years. Those who desire may make contributions in Bonnie’s memory to the Southwest Harbor/Tremont Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 437, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679.
Happy birthday to Meredith Creswell, Logan Sheridan, Jake Rabatin, Leah Marie Ranquist, Bill Banks Jr., Theodore L. Turner, Kenny LeMoine Jr., Sharon Johnson, Leonard M. May II, Gabriella Ruth Joy, Nancy Colbeth, Todd Smith, Jason Matthews, Michael Joyce, and Darlene Harper. Anniversary blessings to Lenny and Vanessa May.
