Swan’s Island: Lighthouse Day is Saturday

Congratulations to Joshua and Sarah Greene who were married Friday, Sept. 6, at the Swan’s Island Baptist Church. Joshua is the minister for the Baptist church and his father, Ralph Greene, officiated for the ceremony.

Please don’t stampede the lighthouse when you learn that the student note cards are back at the Keeper’s House!

Fran Chetwynd details for us the final hours and inventory for this season at the lighthouse: “After many requests, we have a new shipment of the note cards featuring lighthouse art by students at the Swan’s Island School. While you are at the Keeper’s House, check out the new Jil Lewis cards and prints, the starry sky prints by award-winning Howie Motenko, mugs, garments, hats and lots of other good stuff.

“Come by on Maine Lighthouse Day — Saturday, Sept. 14 — between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to take a last look at summer displays and a first look out from the top of our newly-restored light tower. The tower will be open for tower tours on Lighthouse Day only.”

We are fiercely proud of our young folk on this island and I have had conversations this past week with some of our finest. Sage Dentremont worked as the assistant site manager for the lighthouse this summer and she is a junior at Mount Desert Island High School this year. Johnny Rozenski, also a junior at MDI High School this year, will play football at the school for the third year in a row. Teressa Rozenski, as reported by brother Johnny, is leaving in October for Air Force boot camp in Texas. We wish great success to these and all other island students and young professionals.

Happy belated birthday to George Kuck, Sally Solotaroff Mirkin, Vincent William Tapley and David Joyce. Happy birthday to Vernon Johnson, Dave Niquette, Mandy LeMoine, Nancy Davis, “Sput” Staples, Matt Lane, T.W. Hindman, Eden Tamulonis, Betsy Wheaton, Sheila Smith and Mya Bea LeMoine Handy. Belated anniversary blessings to Charlie and Donna Wiegle, Ben and Belinda Doliber, Jean-Jacques and Sarah Cesbron, Erik and Annie Swartzwelder and George Kuck and Fern Burns. Anniversary blessings to Ed and Deb Schwabe, Erik and Sheena Greenlaw and Dusty and Tammie Staples.
