Swan’s Island: Home for Historical Society

Bev McAloon encourages us to attend the next Swan’s Island Historical Society meeting: “We will meet Monday, Dec. 3, from 4-5 p.m. at the library. The purpose of this meeting is to more thoroughly discuss the possibility of use of the Methodist Church building as a future home for the Historical Society. We want members of the Society and community to share thoughts on this topic.”

Donna Wiegle informs us that the weekly Women’s Group at the Mill Pond Health Center has started up again and will meet Monday mornings at 10 a.m. “We had a diverse group of women participate last spring and we discussed a variety of topics, both health-related and life-related. Come and join in.”

We have another fun opportunity to support our 8th graders’ trip to Washington, D.C. Michelle Whitman describes their upcoming fundraiser: “On Thursday, Dec. 6, the 8th grade trip fundraiser at the school begins with a 5 p.m. spaghetti dinner and is followed by a 6 p.m. auction. The students have received many fabulous items to bid on. See you all there!”

We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Steve Harriman who passed away recently. Ed Wheaton sends us details of a service for Steve: “For those wishing to attend, there will be a celebration of life for Steve Harriman at the Eastbrook Baptist Church on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. The event is planned and hosted by the Eastbrook Baptist Church where Steve and Helen are members and where my mom and dad last attended services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Swan’s Island Fire Department or to the Eastbrook Baptist Church.”

Gary Rainford waxes poetic, even when detailing a postponed engagement’s rescheduling: “Due to poisonous winds, the ferry didn’t run and I couldn’t get off island for ‘Poet’s Voice: Gary Rainford’ on Wednesday, Nov. 14. I had fingers crossed for at least one afternoon crossing, but that didn’t happen. See you Wednesday, Dec. 5, instead, same time [6-7 p.m.], same place [the West Market Square Artisan Coffeehouse, 24 Broad Street, Bangor]. Appropriately, I’ll read and dedicate my poem ‘Anemometer’ to Anemoi, the Greek wind gods.”

Happy Birthday to Eric Chetwynd, Julie Dangler, Marilyn Lianna Sawyer, Aiden Sheridan, Rhonda Ranquist, Lesley Ann Ranquist, Pat Dutille, and Suzy Treadwell. Anniversary Blessings to Howard and Christine Dentremont, Adam and Theresa Joy, andBud and Heidi Martin.
