Swan’s Island: Free lobster, and a missing bracelet

Steven Davis, one of our ferry engineers, recently wrote to us: “I work as the engineer (half the time) on the M/V Henry Lee and express thanks to all from me and my family for your very nice treats for Christmas. We just had the lobsters from the Fishermen’s Co-op this week.

“The islanders are an incredibly nice and caring folk and I have enjoyed the time because of you all. Thanks again!”

The town, at the suggestion of the selectmen, gave each one of the ferry crew a gift certificate for lobster from the Fishermen’s Co-op. Captain Vern Lewis, Bob Dumas, Steven Davis, and Karl Haller would like me to convey their appreciation for the town’s generosity and kindness toward them.

Bev McAloon reminds us: “The Historical Society will meet on Monday, Jan. 21, from 3 – 4 p.m. at the Town Office. We will continue the discussion regarding the Historical Society and the Methodist Church building. All are welcome and we hope to see you. Let’s preserve our island history!”

Chelsea Riedel asks us to keep our eyes open: “If anyone sees a bracelet that looks like spoon ends with a resin circle charm in the middle and what looks like a black heart made out of flower petals, could you let me know? The bracelet was made with my wedding flowers and I’m really bummed about losing it. It has a magnetic clasp and came undone without me knowing.”

Katelynn Riedel provides us with a heads-up: “The next Vet Clinic is Thursday, Jan. 24. Dr. DuBois will not be here for the February clinic, so we moved it to January.” Gwen May reminds those that have not done so, “This will be perfect for those whose dogs need rabies shots by the end of the month so they can license the dog before Jan. 31 and not have to pay the $25 late charge.” Last chance!

We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Betty Louise Ward who passed away on Dec. 31, 2018, at the Sussman Hospice House in Rockport. Betty grew up and attended school on Swan’s Island, and later worked as a housekeeper in several local inns.

Happy Birthday to Olivia Joyce, Micah A. May, Molly Bryan Goodwin, Per Lofving, Iver Lofving Jr., and Desiree Grubbs.
