Swan’s Island: Food benefits available

Katelynn Riedel delivers delicious duck eggs: “Attention! The ducks have started to lay like crazy! We are getting from 4-10 eggs a day. As of right now, there are about four dozen available at $5 per dozen; the cost for them may go up soon. Note that I no longer clean the eggs, because leaving the stuff on them keeps them longer. When I cleaned them, I took the egg barrier off, making air and bacteria get inside the eggs and causing them to not last as long.”

Donna Wiegle informs us: “WIC (Women, Infant, and Children) counselor Tawney Jacobs will be on Swan’s Island at the Mill Pond Health Center on Tuesday, April 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. WIC is a nutrition program for pregnant women and Maine families with children up to 5 years old. WIC helps Maine kids to grow up strong and healthy. Food benefits are available based on income guidelines. To schedule an appointment or to see if you qualify, call Jacobs at 667-5304, extension 228.”

The last coffee/tea hour of the season is upon us. Come to the Mill Pond Health Center on Saturday morning, March 30, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., for our last gathering of the season. Everyone is welcome. Drop in for socialization, coffee, tea, pastries and other goodies.

Chelsea Riedel tempts us with beneficial goodies: “Island Adventurers will have a bake sale on Thursday, March 28, from noon to 3 p.m. at the town office. If you don’t like baked goods but still want to support the group, we will have available a wish list of items toward which you can give a monetary donation.
