Swan’s Island: Feeling pride for island youth

Many islanders agree with Emmie McKay Sawyer‘s pride for our youth: So excited for seniors Jackson LawsOlivia Joyce and sophomore Ella Joyce for competing in MDIHS spring track and field. Also excited for sophomore Grace Lemoine for competing on the MDIHS tennis team. I am so glad these opportunities are available to each of you and know that we are very proud of you all. Have fun!

Lucinda Lowell gives us an update on Sonny Sprague, who broke his hip last week and is now in rehab at Seaport Village in Ellsworth. She conveys that he appreciates all the well wishes, visits, phone calls and cards, but now must concentrate on his rest and rehab, thereby limiting visits and calls (inhouse visits can only take place once a week and the immediate family takes those time slots). If you would like to send him a card (very much appreciated), his address is: Sonny Sprague, Seaport Village, 19 General Moore Way, Room 107, Ellsworth, ME 04605. We send prayers and thoughts for a speedy recovery to Sonny in hopes that he will soon return to us.

Donna Wiegle has changed her contact information for the upcoming vaccine clinic: For those who are signed up for the April 22 COVID vaccine clinic on Swan’s Island, know that we will be getting the two-shot Moderna vaccine. We have 74 people signed up for this vaccine clinic and still have a few appointments available. If you want a vaccine this week, reach out to me on Facebook Messenger, or email me at [email protected] I am not on the island right now, so don’t call me at home; if you’ve left a message in the last few days on my home phone, email me or message me. Thanks.

Selectman Jason Joyce requests clean-up consideration: Please do not leave containers (open or closed) of oil at the town office. It becomes a mess for someone else to clean up, especially if they are open. The waste oil container is there for disposing of clean oil by the owner when the office is open to unlock it. Thank you for helping to keep our island safe and clean.

Happy birthday to Betsy Matheson, Nathan Ward, Boston Kenneth LeMoine, James Edward LeMoine, Averill Burns West, Tracy Michaud, Kevin Brenden Walker and Fran Chetwynd. Anniversary blessings to Theodore L. and Bonnie L. Turner.
