Swan’s Island: Deer must be tagged

Dust off your old cribbage boards and prepare to have fun. Crystal Nelson DaGraca announces that the once a month cribbage gathering at the school, open to those 18 and over, starts up again this month and will occur the 4th Tuesday of each month through March.

She provides us with details: “Our first night will be Tuesday, November 27, from 4:30-6 p.m. at the Swan’s Island School. Please bring a board and deck of cards, if you have them. I will have a few sets already here.”

Rob Morang informs us: “We now have a Deer Tagging station on Swan’s Island. I have tags and am able to tag deer harvested on Swan’s Island. You may contact me directly at 460-4279 and we’ll make arrangements to get your deer tagged. As usual, the fee for getting your deer tagged is $5 (cash or check payable to Town of Swan’s Island) and needs to be provided when your deer is tagged. All funds will be turned over to the town and will be distributed as appropriate. Brandi Morang is our backup and is also able to tag deer when I’m not available. Her contact number is 667-8208. If you are unable to contact us, you call the Sheriff’s Office at 667-7575.

“Please remember that it is the hunter’s responsibility to ensure the deer is tagged. Gott’s store in Southwest Harbor is also a tagging station. The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the Sheriff’s Office have done a great job in allowing this service to be available. There are hunting law books available at the Town Office if you have questions about the law. Please note this is different than reporting other complaints. Please report complaints/crimes to the Sheriff’s Office. If it’s an emergency, call 911 and, if not, please call 667-7575.”

Bev McAloon encourages giving to those who give: “One of the best thoughts to describe Swan’s Island is that it is a caring community. Once again, we ask for all of us to come together to help the Bud Martin family as they deal with Bud’s illness. They have been most generous when others on the island are in need. Now it is our turn to give back to them.  Presently, donations can be left at the library, Gwen May‘s office at the Town Hall, or mailed directly to Heidi Martin at 26 Goose Pond Road, Swan’s Island, Maine 04685.”

Happy belated birthday to Captain Vern Lewis. Happy birthday to Joseph W. Staples, Lincoln Bennett Johnson, Christine M. Harrington, Meghan Joyce, Jean-Jacques Cesbron and Bud Martin, Jr.
