Swan’s Island: Accelerated vaccine schedule changes on-island plans

Emmie Sawyer requests that “if anyone is interested, our local eighth graders are collecting returnable cans and bottles. You can drop the bags off at the small building on the right of the circular driveway at the school. Thank you!”

Jeanne Hoyle updates us on the library hours and status:  “Following the lead of TIMS, the library has reopened for its fall hours – Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 2-4 p.m.  We will still follow the guidelines we had in place – five people at a time, each person for 30 minutes.  Once again, I want you to know that if the days we are open aren’t convenient for you, please let me know and I will open the library for you (if I’m on the island) for your own 30 minutes.  These days and times will change in the future, but for now, this is how we will reopen.”

Elizabeth Awalt describes an important project:  “Marking Lives Lost: A Covid Visual Memorial.  Hi Swan’s Island Friends.  In response to the growing numbers of lives lost to COVID-19, I am launching an art project.  Please join me in creating a memorial by creating an art work on paper no larger than 22×30, with any material, by simply making marks – each representing a life lost. Through counting each life and leaving a mark, you will be honoring each victim.  Make 1,000, 2,000 or 3,000 marks per page.  Sign, date, and list the number of marks.  Post a photo on Instagram with #markinglivescovid19 and #eawalt.  Post to Facebook as well.  Invite others to join.  An online exhibit will be organized as this project develops.”

Donna Wiegle informs us that Governor Mills’ recent acceleration of age qualification for the COVID-19 vaccine will change our plan moving forward for vaccinations on the island:  “So, as of now, anyone 18 and over who would like to get a vaccine on the island, please reach out to me and let me know.  I will add you to the list I have.  You can contact me at home (207) 526-4101, send me a message on Facebook Messenger or email me at [email protected].  You can also sign up, when appropriate – March 23 for over 50 and April 19 for over 16 – at any of the mainland vaccine locations.”

Happy birthday to Kyle Thomas Walker Staples, Olivia Buswell, Meimei White, Kurt Tamulonis, Bonnie Staples and Jessica DeFrenn.
