‘Swans’ exhibit a must-see

Miranda Batiste and sidekick Jill Trask have given Swans Island an incredible gift with the “We are Swans Island” photo exhibit. They captured the essence of our community, and even the most camera-shy participants seemed pleased with the final work of art. The exhibit continues to be on display for another month, so repeated viewings are recommended and should be highly enjoyable.

Congratulations to Gary Rainford on the publication of his book “Salty Liquor.” Published by North Country Press, “Salty Liquor” is Gary’s first full-length collection of poems and is currently available for purchase on Amazon.com.

The Baptist Church was filled with talented performers and an appreciative audience for the recent Annual Community Christmas Gathering. I thank Marion Stinson for opening and closing the concert with sing-along carols; Wade Schaefer for his prayer; the Community Choir (Jeanne Hoyle, Marsha Douty, Nancy Davis, Jill Trask, Annette Joyce, Nancy Carter, Dot Barnes, Peter Phillips, Donald Carlson, Gary Hoyle, Michael Joyce) for the anthems they sang; Nancy Davis for her accompaniment on the alto recorder; Gary Hoyle, Peter Phillips, Donald Carlson, and Teressa Rozenski for their vocal solos; Josephine Walker for her heart-piercing rendition of “Away in a Manger;” Marshall and Shepard Walker for their finger-picking goodness with the guitar; Gary Rainford for his thought-provoking and inspirational poetry; Elijah Joyce for his excellent reading of the Christmas story from the Gospel according to Luke; Annie Joyce for her sweet vocal renderings and ukulele playing; Marsha Douty and Donald Carlson and Michelle and Seth Joy for their lovely duets; and Sarah Jae MacDonald, Sage Dentremont, Olivia Joyce, Hannah Joy and Teressa Rozenski for a beautiful portrayal of “Silent Night” through sign language.

Congratulations to Donald Carlson and Marsha Douty upon their recent engagement. We celebrate the union of these two special people.
