Storm prep takes center stage

The incoming snowstorm is bringing a lot of unknowns, the biggest of which might be if Friday will bring another, as has been talked about. Meanwhile, there’s been enough snow and freezing of the water down the hill behind the Islesford fire station that there was ice skating by both adults and children. Cori Alley plowed snow from the ice, and a hill of snow was built starting up by the road and heading down to the ice. Adele Palmer, Bea and Xander Amuso, Katelyn Damon and her young son Elliott were among the horde of children. Amy Palmer, Jim and Melissa Amuso, Cori Alley, Rick Alley and Nicko Hadlock were among the adults. They made a good use of a cold and clear day! Melissa Amuso quoted Xander saying “Best day ever!!”

Katelyn Damon posted a storm prep reminder: water, flashlights and gas for the generators. Charge your cell phones fully; if there’s a car-based cell phone charger, have it available, not in the glove compartment in Northeast Harbor.

Katelyn also arranged and hosted the annual OSHA and CPR training. Jim Wilmerding, Margaret Houghton and Sean Hall came across and taught CPR. Ingrid Gaither and the Cranberry General Store supplied lunch; the Great Cranberry Ladies Aid provided coffee, breakfast and training space. Cari Alley helped with the clean up at the end of the day, along with Eileen Colby Richards‘ son Kenneth McCafferty. Kenneth filled in for Eileen in many areas, allowing her to have a weekend off and fun with family. The Great Cranberry Island Volunteer Fire Department, Islesford Volunteer Fire Department and the Cranberry Isles Rescue Service gave another weekend day to training and annual certification sessions.

Jim Parrish supplied his famous coconut cookies for Tuesday morning at the library; Joy Sprague has made cupcakes for the after-church “tea.” Ann Fernald is often the coffee supplier.

Adele Palmer and Brenna Sullivan have been taking orders for Girl Scout cookies. As happens each year, they’re making many people happy!

Happy birthday to Terry Savage on Feb. 2 and Dawn Raybourn on Feb. 4. Courtney Chaplin adds a year on Feb. 5 as do Gretchen Westphal and Bowden Magee Porcaro. Christine Sandberg follows on Feb. 6. Stefanie Alley and our friend Rick Cegelis celebrate on Feb. 7. Happy birthday to all.
