BAR HARBOR — The Harborside Shakespeare Company and the Jesup Memorial Library are hosting a night of interactive Shakespearean hilarity, a Shakespeare Open Mic Night, at the Jesup on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m.
This is an opportunity for anyone regardless of age or experience to step up to the microphone and share a snippet of a scene, a soliloquy or a sonnet from the works of William Shakespeare or another piece of classic theater. Harborside Shakespeare members will be on hand to perform and to cheer on other participants.
In homage to the sharp stings and colorful insults sprinkled throughout the works of the Bard, the Shakespearean Insult Wheel will make a return appearance that evening. This hilarious part of the evening’s entertainment is not to be missed.
“We’re looking forward to the return of Harborside Shakespeare Company,” said Ruth Eveland, director of the library. “Previous Shakespeare Open Mic Nights have drawn an enthusiastic and energetic crowd. It’s a really fun way to spend a cold winter’s night in Bar Harbor.”
No experience? No worries. Come to read, watch or perform. Participants can sign up at the door. A selection of Shakespearean texts will be available, and refreshments will be provided.
