Take a break from the grueling snow shoveling by attending one or more of the upcoming meetings on the island. Allow your voice to be heard in a more pleasant way than the cursing and groaning heard ‘round the island. Gwen May informs us that the Town Budget Meeting is in the school gymnasium on Friday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. The Swan’s Island School Budget meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium; the school board will meet earlier than usual, at 5:30 p.m., on this date in order to accommodate the time for the budget meeting. Mark your calendars for the Annual Town Meeting on Monday, March 2, in the school gymnasium. I will provide more details on this important meeting in next week’s column.

Donna Wiegle announces another great healthy lifestyle program that begins on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. and runs for 12 weeks. A New You will be held at the Mill Pond Health center and is free and open to men and women, young and old. Topics covered in the weekly sessions will focus on eating healthy, food tracking, portion control, understanding how many calories you need each day, increasing your metabolism to burn more calories, simple ways to add physical activity to your daily routine, reducing your risk of chronic diseases, ways to stay motivated, reducing stress, setting attainable goals for yourself and much more.
