Fran Chetwynd alerts us to the end of the season for the Swan’s Island Lighthouse: “Just one more week to see the Historical Society exhibit at the Keeper’s house – ‘Keep Calm and Carry On – Island Life in the World War II Years’. We close for the season on Sept. 12, and shortly thereafter, we’ll be taking the exhibit down. (By the way, Sept. 12 is Maine Lighthouse Day, and the Keeper’s house and tower will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.). So you have only one more week to get one of our cozy sweatshirts or hoodies – we have a few left. And an end of the season bonus – Howie Motenko stopped by on Sunday and signed the remaining copies of his marvelous photo of the Milky Way over the Keeper’s house. We also have some of Christine Dentremont’s porcelain sand dollars – each one cast from a natural original, but much more durable. Think pendant or Christmas tree decoration. All of these items would make great gifts!”
We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Minerva Haller, Karl Haller’s mother, upon her passing. Karl and I thank all of you who have extended many kindnesses to Karl’s parents when they have visited in recent years; they fell in love with the island because of you. We also especially thank Amara Joyce and Sarah Jae MacDonald for taking care of our Little Lady during our absence.
The Curly’s Monday Movie for Sept. 14 at the IOOF Hall is “The Quick and the Dead” with Sam Elliott.
Meredith Creswell invites us to learn and share at the 6 p.m. Bible study each Wednesday evening in the annex next to the Advent Christian Church in Minturn. She says, “This season, we are exploring the Amazing Book of Proverbs … and how we can apply them to our daily lives.”
