School paving

BAR HARBOR — Repaving the entrance drive and adjacent parking spaces at Mount Desert Island High School is scheduled to start next Wednesday, June 24.

K.J. Dugas Construction Company of Surry won the contract for the project with a bid of $298,000.

“It will be all the way from Eagle Lake Road, up past the school building and around the turnaround in the back,” Principal Matt Haney said. “They are completely rebuilding part of it and just doing a partial reclaim on the rest.”

The rebuilt driveway will have new speed bumps. Haney acknowledged that speed bumps aren’t universally popular, but said they are necessary for safety.
