Safe Sitter class is set



BAR HARBOR — Mount Desert Island Hospital will offer a Safe Sitter Babysitting Course in the Wolf Conference Center at the Lisa Stewart Women’s Health Center on Wednesday, Aug 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Students who complete the program will learn how, why and where injuries can happen so they can be prevented. They are taught infant and child choking rescue and CPR. The program follows the American Heart Association standards for rescue skills as well as instruction in first aid techniques from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Students also will learn how to prevent problem behavior, run their own babysitting business and discuss issues of online and cell phone safety, and must pass a practical and written test that indicates their mastery of key concepts and life and safety skills.

All participants will receive a Safe Sitter kit.
