Restroom work starts

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Adding a new meaning to the term port-a-potty, the public restroom building on Village Green Way was lifted off its foundation earlier this week and moved to a parking lot above the town office.

That building will be used by the town for storage. In its place will be a new building with two gender neutral bathrooms. Town Manager Don Lagrange told selectmen Tuesday that a concrete slab for the new building is expected to be poured by the end of next week. The project is estimated to cost $86,000.

Portable toilets have been set up on Village Green Way for use by the public while construction is underway.
