We thank Rep. Walter A. Kumiega III for giving us a written report that includes a primer on maintenance work and inspections for the Maine Ferry Service fleet, a 2014 Vessel Maintenance Summary and a 2015 maintenance plan.
Support our school basketball teams by attending home and away games. The 3-5 grades will play at Pemetic in Southwest Harbor on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The following Saturday, Jan. 24, our boys’ and girls’ teams will have the home court advantage from 12-2:30 p.m.
We are fortunate that many health practitioners travel to Swans Island for us. Donna Wiegle informs us of several upcoming opportunities to meet with these practitioners at the Mill Pond Health Center. What better time of the year to take stock of your health in such a convenient way?
Dr. Julian Kuffler will be on the island on Wednesday, Jan. 21, from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Please call the Community Health Center in Southwest Harbor at 244-5630 to schedule an appointment in advance. Let them know you want to be seen on Swans Island.
On Thursday, Jan. 22, from 6:30-9 a.m. at the Mill Pond Health Center, there will be a health screening clinic with Mount Desert Island Hospital offering deeply discounted blood tests (prices are about 25 percent of the actual cost). Tests include cholesterol profile, diabetes blood sugar screening, prostate cancer screening, thyroid testing and complete blood count. A free blood pressure check is available, and you do not need a doctor’s order to participate. Payment must be made with check or cash; no insurance will be billed. For cholesterol and blood sugar testing, you must be fasting – nothing to eat or drink for at least 10 hours prior to your blood draw.
Dr.Timothy Oh and the staff from Caring Hands of Maine Dental Center will be offering dental services on Friday, Jan. 23, at the Health Center. Both current and new patients may call their office at 667-6789 to schedule an appointment.
If you have questions, please contact Donna Wiegle at 526-4101.
