Renovations on fire station begin

BAR HARBOR — Work has begun on exterior renovations to the town’s public safety building. Gorham-based Knowles Industrial is doing the work, the same company that made similar repairs to the municipal building earlier this year.

“Right now they’re putting up the staging for them to work off,” Fire Chief Matt Bartlett said. “Then they’ll get to repairs of the exterior masonry and re-pointing. They built the staging around our doors; it won’t hamper the fire department’s operations.”

Voters approved a $400,000 bond issue at town meeting in June to fund the repairs. Work is expected to be complete mid-January.
