Quarry hearing cancelled

MOUNT DESERT — It likely will be sometime in March before the Planning Board resumes its consideration of an application by Harold MacQuinn Inc. for a license to resume quarrying at a site in Hall Quarry.

The board had scheduled a special meeting for Jan. 7 to continue the public hearing on the matter. But that meeting has been cancelled at the request of Jeff Gammelin, president of Freshwater Stone, which leases the quarry site from MacQuinn, because he would be unable to attend.

Kim Keene, the town’s code enforcement officer, said she is trying to find an alternate date when all of the board members and all interested parties are available. She said it probably won’t be until March.

The Planning Board opened the public hearing on the quarry license application last January.
