Program to boost health

Donna Wiegle informed us about a free program sponsored by Healthy Acadia and Mill Pond Health Center: “Utilizing Stanford University’s Chronic Disease Self-Management program, a six-week course, ‘Taking Action for Health,’ will be presented at the Mill Pond Health Center beginning Monday, April 10, from 12-2:30 p.m. In this workshop, you’ll get the support you need to find practical ways to deal with pain and fatigue, discover better nutrition and exercise choices, learn better ways to talk with your family and your medical providers about your health, and much more. This six-week course is being offered free of charge to anyone living with a chronic disease, i.e., diabetes, heart disease, cancer, anxiety and depression, chronic pain … any chronic condition that is affecting your health. Caregivers of those living with chronic diseases are also welcome to attend. If you are interested in signing up for the course or have any questions about it, please contact me by April 6 at my home number, my email [email protected], or send me a private FaceBook message. Each participant will receive the workshop companion book, ‘Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions,’ and an audio CD, ‘Relaxation for Mind and Body’.”

Gideon Davidson invited us to an informational open house at the Atlantic Fire Station on Saturday, April 8, from 12-1 p.m. “Swans Island Fire & Rescue is looking for volunteers. We are having an informational open house to explain all about the kind of help we are looking for. Please come and find out about the many different ways you can get involved.”

Candi Joyce expressed her gratitude for a grant from the Rose and Samuel Rudman Trust, administered by the Maine Community Foundation, that has provided the library with boxes of new books for all ages. She is particularly pleased with those by her new favorite children’s author, William Joyce. Check them out at the library.

Happy birthday to Meredith Creswell, Josiah Adam Joy, Jenny M. Turner, Anna Buswell Marchant, Zachary Harvey, Candis Joyce, Seth Gordon Joy, Isabella Joyce, Laurie Farley, Richard Griffin, Anna Carr, Bill Banks Jr., Theodore L.
