Prep for summer begins

On GCI, residents are gearing up for spring and anticipation builds as the arrival of the summer community grows closer. Yards and fields on properties left vacant are being tidied up by Blair Colby and others who take care of summer homes. Winter does a number on the landscape and much work is to be done to maintain these spaces. Trees fall in winter storms, littering yards with debris, and spruce continuously creep in hoping to once again turn open fields of grasses and blueberries into a dark forest. It’s pruning season, when old apple trees get their haircuts, branches shortened to keep them sturdy and not overburdened when bearing fruit.

Although most people’s gears are spinning faster, a few are finally getting a much needed break. Hollie Stanley is on vacation from her usual post at the general store, and with Blue General hauled out of the water for maintenance, Patrick Allen is taking a reprieve as well. Luckily Scott is still around with the trusty Crustacean to get Janice Murch‘s workers back and forth from the mainland.

The Seaside Playhouse is resuming its spring season of movies beginning April l. Movies will be shown on Tuesday and Saturday nights between through June 15 at 7:30 p.m. Come for popcorn, soda, and pizza on special occasions.
