BAR HARBOR — Weekly pregnancy and baby-mom yoga classes will be offered beginning Jan. 10 by Susan Sassaman at Pilates Studio, 18 Pleasant Street.
Each pregnancy yoga class runs from 9-10:15 a.m. and includes gentle postures, breath work and pelvic floor training. The class prepares women for birth by developing techniques for labor and teaching them how to tune into their bodies and focus on their unborn children.
The baby-mom classes offered from 10:45 a.m. to noon include similar relaxation benefits for new mothers and provide time for them to give their babies undivided attention. The babies are not positioned into yoga postures, but allowed unrestrained movement on the floor plus whatever else they might need for contentment.
A half-hour social time between the classes will allow each group to learn from and gain support from each other.
Donations of $10 per class will be given to the Lisa Stewart Women’s Health Center in Bar Harbor.
Susan Sassaman’s Kripalu yoga trainings include Let Your Yoga Dance (LYYD), Prenatal Yoga and Partner Yoga. She has been offering yoga and dance classes in Maine and Vermont for more than 20 years.
