The premiere of “Peak Oil: A Love Story” is set for Friday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. in the Swans Island Library. This short film by Nelson Cole and featuring Iver Lofving is about one man’s obsession with “peak oil” and how he went from doom to bloom. It is a light touch on a heavy topic. Iver Lofving has built electric cars and solarized his house, and he continues to spread the gospel of sustainability with humor wherever he goes. For more about the film, call 526-4350.
Mark your calendars for the two remaining Oddfellows’ breakfasts on Sundays, Aug. 21 and Oct. 9, from 7-9 a.m. Where did the summer go?
Currently on exhibit at the library are photographs and poems by Miranda Batiste; “There is a light that shines here, a semisole of light – not reflected – of itself complete. “ The poetry read and exhibit run through Aug. 28.
If you are enjoying Miranda’s exhibit on Tuesday, Aug. 23, you are in for a treat starting at 7 p.m. Scott Cleveland (piano/voice), Bobby Duron (percussion) and Phil Kell (bass) are “a conservatory-trained trio of passionate composers/performers who enjoy crossing over many genres.” Their performance ranges from jazz to rhythm and blues and even to atonal chamber music. Don’t miss them!
Only three weeks remain before the Swans Island Lighthouse closes for the season. The Maine Open Lighthouse Day marks the last day our lighthouse is open. The date for this year is Saturday, Sept. 10. Tour the tower, walk the trails, peruse the exhibit, shop for gifts and admire the work of many artists.
Happy birthday to the Swans Island Lighthouse, Tom McAloon, Sonja Philbrook, Wayne LeMoine, Daniel V. Johnson, Sarah Lane, Jenny Solotaroff, Joanna Staples, Pumpkin LeMoine and Bruce MacDonald.
