OCALA, Fla. — Photojournalist Peter Travers, of Seal Harbor and Ocala, Fla., died suddenly Jan. 9 at the UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla., after a long period of illness.
For more than two decades, he documented life on Mount Desert Island, particularly sports, for the Bar Harbor Times, winning dozens of awards from the Maine and New England Press Associations. Earlier in his career, he worked as a team photographer for the Boston Red Sox and official photographer for the Boston Marathon. He also shot Celtics and Bruins games in Boston Garden.
After moving to Florida, he worked as a photographer for the Villages Daily Sun in Lake County, where he continued to win excellence awards from the Florida Press Association.
He is survived by his wife, Trina, and daughters Ingrid and Anna.
At his request, there will be no obituary or memorial service.
