New gym space proposed

Happy Thanksgiving to all! Short week, short news.

This week, the Future’s Group revisited the idea of constructing a new gym space for Cranberry community members. Currently, gym equipment is stationed in the basement of the church, and, although grateful for the space, users hope that the new gym will be larger with more light and airflow. Currently, we are assessing possible gym locations and costs for a small building.

After the recent wind and rain, most of the leaves have fallen to the ground. Some are still resistant and are partly green. Coastal water temperatures on Nov. 16 were 51.1 degrees in Bar Harbor and Eastport. Cindy Thomas and Barb Fernald took advantage of it on Thursday and went for a swim.

Cindy Thomas hosted Turkeys for Thanksgiving at the Islesford Library on Thursday. It was a guys’ day, with Elliott Hadlock, Bode Duggan and Lew Powell.

The annual Thanksgiving gathering on GCI will be held at the Ladies Aid Sunday Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend and enjoy a delicious meal cooked by Mark Alley. The Island Ecology project donated a box of island-grown potatoes for the meal, and there is sure to be so much love in that food that your taste buds won’t know what hit you.

Three members of GCI, Jessi Duma, Kayla Gagnon and I, Sarah McCracken, will travel to North Dakota at the end of the month to stand with the Sioux Nation and help protect their sacred lands and basic rights to clean water. We are hoping to be safe and peacefully of service at Standing Rock and would appreciate warm thoughts and monetary donations to the camp from fellow islanders. We also will donate money from The Island Ecology project to support the camp through the winter.

Happy birthday, Cari Alley on Nov. 25. Happy anniversary to Barbara and Alden Hathaway, also on Nov. 25.
