Annette Nelligan, professor at the University of Maine in Orono, recently brought another one of her multiculturalism classes out to our island. For their first visit to Swans Island, three graduate students – Bethany Belanger, Tristan Greenlaw and Nancy Jewett – experienced a cancelled trip (makeup trip to Frenchboro from the day before), a late voyage (winds) and the resultant rush to cram a six-hour schedule into three hours. They seemed to enjoy their visit despite this realistic portrayal of island life. Watch for upcoming news about an exciting summer course offering (May 2016) at the university that involves collaboration with Swans Island.
Many thanks to all those who have transported my husband, Karl Haller, and me while we were short one vehicle, especially Betsy Mattheson. We also thank Joe Furrow and Jeff Sprague for outfitting us in style and turning a painful situation into an amazingly fun one. Merci beaucoup!
Rick DuBois will have another vet clinic at the Atlantic Fire Station on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. He informs us, “I will offer the usual rabies vaccination only for those requesting such, but will also offer exams and other vaccinations to take care of whatever ails your pet. If you have any specific questions or needs, please call my office in Dexter at 924-3462. Please give me ample time if it involves ordering something special.”
