BAR HARBOR — Seniors Genevieve Goebel and Camilla Thomassen-Tai were presented Peace Awards at Mount Desert Island High School on May 20. Goebel and Thomassen-Tai each were awarded $500, a certificate and a year’s subscription to “Yes” magazine by Acadia Friends (Quaker) Meeting.
Goebel took leadership with Operation Breaking Stereotypes, an exchange with students at the Bronx Academy of Letters in New York City, was a student representative to the Hearing Committee and earned Search and Rescue training and certification.
Thomassen-Tai took leadership roles in activities that encouraged anti-bullying, healthy lifestyle choices, substance abuse awareness and fostering an inclusive environment. Her Senior Exhibition focused on horseback riding as a therapeutic technique.
