MDI place names explored

BAR HARBOR — Ever wonder how a river, mountain, or town got its name?

James E. Francis, the Penobscot Nation’s Cultural and Historic Preservation Director, will share stories about the origin and meaning of Mount Desert Island and Down East regional place names from a Wabanaki perspective at the Abbe Museum on Sunday, June 1, from 6-8 p.m.

The presentation will be accompanied by a performance by the Alamoosic Drummers and is part of the United South and Eastern Tribes semi-annual meeting in Bar Harbor from June 2-4.
