SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island Community Sailing Center welcomes volunteers each week on Thursdays at 9 a.m. Projects include painting, sanding, varnishing and organizing the sailing center. “Many hands make light work, and we have lots of projects to accomplish to get ready for the spring season. Contact our office if you are interested in lending a hand,” center director Glenn Squires said.
The classroom area is in the middle of a complete makeover including new paint, flooring, tables, chairs and a merchandise area. New energy efficient lights are being installed through out the building.
All of these improvements have been made possible through the support of our amazing donors and tons of volunteer labor.
The Sailing Center also seeks donations of old sails of any size and in any condition. “We will convert them into funds to help support our programs,” Squires said.
