Lobster and Marine Museum needs help

Jessica Harrington is looking for some help preparing the Lobster & Marine Museum and its exhibits for winter. “We will be packing and storing exhibits, cleaning out old debris, securing the basement for the season and preparing for spring cleaning and painting.” If you’d like to help, meet her and others at the museum on Friday, Oct. 7, at 9 a.m.

We thank Joan Harding for leaving her shell collection for the community to use. Candis Joyce told us, “If you would like to look at the shells or take some for crafts or a collection, come to the library … . Just bring a box.”

Dexter Lee reminded us that “the days are getting shorter, and we have gone to winter hours at the transfer station.” The new hours are 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Dexter also informed us that the Department of Marine Resources has lifted the red tide restriction on harvesting mussels. Enjoy!

Mark your calendars for the last Odd Fellows’ Sunday breakfast of the year. Feast on delicious breakfast fare from 7-9 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, at the IOOF Hall.

Donna Wiegle reported that the 2016 Any Deer Permit lottery results are available online at deer.informe.org/2016/. She said that she saw some Swans Island names on the list and that “at a meeting earlier this year with Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, it was suggested that hunters could help reduce the deer population and thereby reduce the incidence of Lyme disease by reducing the number of does in the herd. The Any Deer permit helps make this possible.”

The Church of God has begun having Sunday evening services again at 6 p.m. Wade Shaefer encourages anyone who may be interested to come on out.

Congratulations to Joanna Staples and Travis May upon the birth of their son Oakley.

Happy birthday to Jennifer LeMoine Turner, Scott Carlson and Brianna Ashley Davis.
