Lighthouse to shine

Fran Chetwynd excites us with news of the lighthouse: “We are getting ready for the summer season at the Burnt Coat Harbor Light. Come tour the keeper’s house and tower starting June 21. There will be an intriguing new historical society exhibit in the keeper’s house, and the tower will be open, showing off the new paintwork and many interior repairs!” Open hours for the keeper’s house will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. The tower will be open from noon to 3 p.m., also Tuesday through Saturday. Both the keeper’s house and the tower are closed Sunday and Monday, but the grounds are open all days for hiking, dreaming, and enjoying.

Don’t forget about the benefit potluck supper for Donna Wiegle this Saturday, June 18, in the Odd Fellows’ Hall at 5 p.m. Clean-up help is needed from anyone who is willing and able.

Jeanne Hoyle reports, “A camera was found recently and was brought into the library. If anyone has lost a camera, it is available to be picked up if you can describe it correctly.”

Clay Savage invites us to watch the movie “Risen,” which will be shown at the Methodist Church on Saturday, June 18, at 7 p.m. A new release, “Risen” is the story of a Roman soldier assigned to find the body of Christ after the crucifixion. The movie is free. Refreshments will be available.

Emmie Sawyer entices us to indulge our sweet tooth either by making or by purchasing a pie for the Island Camp Fund pie auction. A favorite annual event of many residents and visitors, the auction is set for Tuesday, June 28, at 6 p.m. in the Swans Island Church of God Fellowship Hall (77 Rose Hill Road). The fund benefits island children attending faith-based camps. Emmie requests, “If you are able to make a pie or any dessert, it would be greatly appreciated! If needed, feel free to call me at 526-4036 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.”

Happy birthday to Charlie Wiegle, Karen Ann Martin, Gloria Mae Green, Agnes Robinson, Serena Staples Walker, Jill Andreas Philbrook, Spencer Paul Rose and Fionn Moynihan Stinson. Anniversary blessings to Zeke and Lacey Freelove, Rusty and Kathy Burns, Jacques and Virginia Cesbron and Clay and Jane Savage.
