Islanders welcome Avery

Many islanders and mainlanders are celebrating the newest Staples bundle of joy. Born to parents Kyle and Autumn Staples, Avery Kyle Staples arrived on March 18, weighing 9 pounds, 4.5 ounces and measuring 20-1/4 inches long. His grandparents are Dusty and Tammie Staples of Swans Island, Eve Young of Hulls Cove and Jason Lovejoy of Mount Desert. Great-grandparents include Donald and Bonnie Staples of Swans Island, Libby Lovejoy of Seal Cove and Martha Reed of Swans Island. Many aunts, uncles and cousins are thrilled with Avery’s arrival, and big brother Tabor Walker Staples is especially excited about this new family member. Welcome to this world, Avery!

Christal Applin is reviving fun on the island: “It’s time to dust off the board and get warmed up for the way overdue Cribbage Tournament! For a $5 entry fee, double elimination matches can be played in the comfort of your homes/library/ferry boat/wharf/wherever, on your own schedule. The tournament is set to begin April 1. Call or text me at 266-7614 with any questions. Sign up on FaceBook or on the signup sheets that I have posted around town.”

Rick DuBois, our traveling veterinarian, will be on island this week: “It’s no April Fool’s, but I will be on the island at the Fire Hall on Saturday, April 1, to provide veterinary medical services. Even though winter is having a hard time letting go, because of the warm weather we so briefly had in January, the tick population is creating some early cases of Lyme in people. Our dogs will also be at risk sooner this year. I will have vaccine and flea/tick preventatives with me so you can stock up for summer (when it finally comes!). If you have other special needs, be sure to call my Dexter office at 924-3462 as soon as you can so I can have time to fill your request. My next trip out will be hopefully the first Saturday of June if you can’t make it in April.”

Quote of the week: “Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them, the rest of us could not succeed.” – Mark Twain

Happy birthday to Avery Kyle Staples and Jessica DeFrenn.
