BAR HARBOR — Kathe Simons received the David P. Evans Memorial Award to the outstanding volunteer at Island Connections during the nonprofit’s Spring Popover event in May. Simons joins a long list of volunteers who are honored annually as the “best of the best.”
Island Connections volunteers help their elderly and disabled neighbors with transportation to medical appointments, the grocery store or other personal business. They also show they kind of care and compassion that make this island a better place to live.
Connections officials said “Simons is a marvelous example of what Island Connections volunteers do daily.” Last year, she made 165 one-way and round-trip drives of a total of 5,245 miles, maintained the Island Connections website, and helped neighbors in other ways with kindness and enthusiasm.
