If it walks like a duck…

Please contact Katelynn Riedel if you are interested in her drakes that are for sale at $10 each. She says that these large, male ducks are barnyard mix ducks with a Blue Swedish mother and Ancona and Saxony fathers. She will soon have more drakes of different breeds once they show the tail curl.

Emmie Sawyer is once again our faithful ferry correspondent, reminding us of the upcoming ferry schedule change, and along with Wendy Joyce, alerting us to the mistake in the written ferry schedule. For Sundays, the schedule change will begin on Oct. 26, not Oct. 19; for all other days, the schedule changes on Monday, Oct. 20. With the fall schedule, we lose the 5:15 p.m. ferry from Bass Harbor on most days, but we gain a 12:45 p.m. from Swans Island and a 1:30 p.m. from Bass Harbor. Please take note of these changes.

Leah Staples informs us that adult pick-up basketball will be starting for the year this Friday, Oct. 10, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Come to the school gymnasium for some healthy Friday night fun.

Congratulations to Jessica DeFrenn on her new job and first apartment. We are proud of you and look forward to hearing about all of your great accomplishments.

Candis Joyce announces that the library has started purchasing the Raven cycle book series by Maggie Stiefvater, an American writer of young adult fiction. Ms. Stiefvater is also known for her music; with her sister, she writes and records a piece of music for each novel she releases. These are released to the public in the form of animated book trailers. We anticipate this celebrated book series.

Tammy Tripler reminds us that the senior luncheons have started and will continue at the school cafeteria on the second Wednesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. The next luncheon is slated for Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The eighth Annual Homecoming of the Advent Christian Church family will be held on Sunday, Oct. 12. Meredith Cresswell said, “We look forward to a day of singing, worship, special music, fellowship and, of course, good food! Those visiting the Island should plan to come over on the 9 a.m. ferry. We’ll have some cars on the Swans Island side to meet you and bring you to the church. We’ll all begin with a hymn sing at 10:30 a.m., followed by our worship service. Pastor Dave Davis from the Sunshine Advent Christian Church on Deer Isle will be our speaker. After worship, we’ll have lunch together in the annex.

“There will be plenty of time for reminiscing, but we promise to get visitors back to the ferry in time to catch an afternoon boat back to Bass Harbor. There will be a surprise or two! Please call Max Creswell (526-4250) or send him an e-mail ([email protected]) if you plan to be with us, so we can give the caterer an accurate count.

“One more thing … do you have any photos, church bulletins/programs, memorabilia, etc. that we can display? Check your attic for any special treasures, and bring them with you. We want you to be with us.”

Happy birthday to Norman K. Burns, Lawrence Smith, Shaun Gilbert LeMoine, Denise Boisvert, and Rachel Elizabeth Johnson.

Anniversary blessings to Kenny and Esther LeMoine.
