BAR HARBOR — An information session about At Home MDI will take place at the Bar Harbor Congregational Church on Sunday, Oct. 16, following the 10 a.m. service.
At Home MDI is a local, nonprofit, volunteer-supported program delivering a variety of services including guaranteed transportation, social visits, hospital discharge support, coordination of services, home safety evaluations, food security and medication management by a licensed nurse. The program began offering services in January 2015 and now has a team of 30 volunteers, two nurse contracts and a licensed social worker.
In its first year of service, At Home MDI has provided its members 235 rides to medical appointments, 195 rides for groceries and other errands, 55 social visits, 60 nurse home visits and 50 wellness calls. Program volunteers devoted over 760 hours and logged over 9,700 miles.
The Somesville Union Meeting House will host an information session after the 10:30 a.m. service on Oct. 30.
The mission of At Home MDI is to provide essential services, empowering older residents of island communities to continue to live independently in their homes as they age. At Home MDI engages with existing community organizations, businesses and services to support its vision and mission.
