Holiday prep under way

Leah Staples keeps us active amidst all the indulgent holiday celebrations. She announces that adult volleyball starts up on Monday, Dec. 7, from 7-9 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Have some fun working off that extra slice of pumpkin pie.

Christine Dentremont encourages us to stop by Waterfall Arts if we are visiting or traveling through Belfast. This arts center has affordable handmade gifts from 100 regional artists, including some of Christine’s sand dollar ornaments, which will be there from Dec. 4-23. Hurry on by before her ornaments sell out.

Local vendors on Swans Island continue selling their wares on Friday, Dec. 4, and Saturday, Dec. 19, from 5-8 p.m. in the library; this is an extension of the Small Business Saturday that began on Nov. 28. What a great opportunity to support our local small businesses and wrap up our holiday shopping at the same time.

Chelsea Tripler informs us, “I will be having a Christmas light contest this year to raise money for the kid’s program. To sign up, it’s $5, and there will be a prize for the winner. If you want to enter, you can contact me in person or on Facebook. Can’t wait to see the entries!”

Congratulation to Gary Hoyle’s “fleet-footed grandson,” Zachariah Hoyle, for his recent accomplishments. Hoyle has been named the Morning Sentinel Boys Cross-Country Runner of the Year; he placed third in both the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A championship and the Northern Maine regional, then took seventh place at the Class A state championship meet. He is a junior at Messalonskee High School in Oakland.

Mark your calendars for the 8th-grade auction on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Dinner will be served as in past years. Please plan to bid generously!

Happy birthday to Lesley Ann Ranquist, Rhonda Ranquist, Pat Dutille, Suzy Treadwell, Dan Hersey and Keisha Kelliher. Anniversary blessings to Bud and Heidi Martin.
