Give our regards to …

It was good visiting with Katy Blake and her husband at the end of their Swans Island sojourn. Many of you may remember when Katy and a friend performed “Broadway Buddies,” selections from Broadway musicals in which they had performed, as a fundraiser at the Oddfellow’s Hall a few years ago. We send wishes for lots of luck on Katy’s new venture of writing her own musical and having it performed in New York and many other places.

Congratulations to Jud Cease and Stephanie Brown who were united in marriage at Poland Springs Resort on Saturday, July 30. We wish Mr. and Mrs. Cease the very best.

The Swans Island Artists’ Open Studio will be held on Friday, Aug. 5, from 2-6 p.m. Featured artists are Willa Vennema at 21 White Road; John Bryan, Aby Milner and Christine Dentremont at 42 Harbor Road; Iver Lofving at 158 Minturn Road; and Gary Hoyle, Kathy Krafjack, Jen Pope, Ann Marie Maguire, Jill Trask, Bev McAloon, Hal Minis and Jessica DeFrenn in the Health Center at 235 Minturn Road.

We welcome our newest ferry captain, Kris Henning, who comes to us from Rockland. I look forward to meeting and passing on more information about him to my readers in the near future. In the meantime, I encourage you to give him a hearty welcome.

Veterinarian Rick DuBois informed us: “A reminder to everyone that I will be on the island Aug. 6 at the Fire Station from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to administer vaccinations or take care of illnesses that can wait until then. I will also have supplies like flea/tick preventatives, ear and eye preparations and heartworm preventatives. If you have special needs for your pet, please call the Dexter office at 924-3462 and let us know what I need to bring. Thanks to everyone for the great support you have given these clinics!”

Ben Tongue will present “Sextants and the History of Navigation” on Thursday, Aug. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Swan’s Island Lobster and Marine Museum. You won’t want to miss this interesting and informative presentation.

Kathy and Brian Krafjack are our superheroes once again. They relay to us, “On Monday, July 25, L.J. officially started leaving all FedEx/UPS packages at TIMS (The Island Market and Supply) for pick up. We’ll do our best to notify people of deliveries [they have already employed a variety of methods for doing this]. It’s worth mentioning for those who may not know – when tracking your package online, a status of ‘delivered’ means it has been received on the mainland and delivery to Swans Island will lag by a day; it could lag by two days if received on the mainland on a Saturday. We hope that TIMS as a central location for pick up is convenient for all!”

Happy birthday to Jerry Matthews, Theodore A. Turner, Christopher Carlson, Linda Camber, Laura Madison Rose, Brandon Richard Davis, Leonard May Sr., L.J. Hopkins, Sam Dy and Sophia Altha Dy. Marriage blessings to Jud and Stephanie Cease. Anniversary blessings to Thomas and Billie Jo Riedel, Gavin and Agnes Robinson, and Ed and Jaime Rose.
