SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Stephen C. Clement will talk about the structure of the Earth, the movement of the plates and the resulting major earthquakes that have happened in Indonesia, Japan, Chile and Nepal when he visits the Southwest Harbor Public Library on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 5:30 p.m.
Clement earned his doctorate in geology from Cornell University. He is a retired professor emeritus at the College of William and Mary. His research was on mineral chemistry, phase relationships, anorthosites, igneous petrology and petrography, and x-ray emission spectrometry. Clement volunteers at Historic Jamestowne, identifying lithic artifacts, and is an instructor for William and Mary’s Christopher Wren Association – their “Senior College.” He divides his time between Toano, Va., and Bass Harbor.
