FOSIL given land to sell

Friends of the Swan’s Island Lighthouse (FOSIL) sent some exciting news: “FOSIL has received a very generous gift of real estate – to be specific, a buildable lot at 65 Ferry Road on Swans Island. The lot is about 1 acre and will be listed at $95,000, a bargain for a good-sized property within easy walking distance of the ferry landing, shore frontage (deep water) on Mackerel Cove and gorgeous sunset views across the cove towards the York Narrows and Casco Passage. This would be a wonderful ‘base camp’ for cruising the Maine Coast — a great rental property — or an excellent spot from which to enjoy life on Swans Island. Swans Island Properties is the agent; call Belinda Doliber at 526-4430 if interested.”

Karen Preston Griffin reminded us that the transfer station hours are now on the summer schedule: Sunday 12-5 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 4-7 p.m.; Saturday 12-3 p.m. (July and August only). She also informs us that the Wood Burning and Metal Collection areas are closed until further notice.

Donna Wiegle encourages us to utilize valuable services: “Women, Infants and Children (WIC) counselor Trudy Lunt will come to the Mill Pond Health Center on Thursday, April 20. If you are pregnant, nursing or have a child up to 5 years of age, you may qualify for the WIC program. We may be losing our on-island visits from WIC if Trudy does not have enough families enrolled in the program. If you are interested or want to know if you qualify, call Trudy at 667-5304, ext. 222. WIC is a nutrition program that benefits thousands of Maine families, helping Maine kids to grow up strong and healthy. WIC food benefits are available based on income guidelines and up-to-date nutrition research.”

Jeanne Hoyle informed us that the Swans Island Baptist Church will hold a Good Friday service conducted by Joshua Greene and clergy from off island on April 14 at 1:30 p.m. An Easter sunrise service will take place at the Fire Pond in Atlantic on Sunday, April 16, at 6:30 a.m., followed by a breakfast at the Swans Island Baptist Church. Greene will lead the Swans Island Baptist Church Easter Sunday service on April 16, at 11 a.m. Emmie Sawyer reported that the Church of God will hold its regular 11 a.m. service on Easter Sunday.

Happy belated birthday to Brian Krafjack. Happy birthday to Leah Marie Ranquist, Leonard M. May II, Gabriella Ruth Joy, Todd Smith, Logan Sheridan, Michael Joyce, Jason Matthews, Richie Davis, Patty LeMoine, Heidi Martin and Nancy Colbeth. Anniversary blessings to Lenny and Vanessa May.
