Financial literacy for women



BAR HARBOR — The YWCA Mount Desert Island is sponsoring a series of classes on financial literacy for women.

The first class, Bank on It, begins Oct. 25 at 8:30 a.m. at 36 Mount Desert St. with instructor Debbie Mitchell Dow from Bar Harbor Banking & Trust.

The monthly classes are free, and childcare is provided. The Money Smart for Adults instructor-led curriculum from the FDIC consists of eleven training modules that cover basic financial topics. Topics include a description of deposit and credit services offered by financial institutions, choosing and maintaining a checking account, spending plans, the importance of saving, how to obtain and use credit effectively and the basics of building or repairing credit.
