His words bespeaking a father’s pride, Al Buswell shared news of his daughter’s most recent accomplishment: “By a vote of the executive committee of the Boston University Board of Trustees, my daughter Amy Buswell Hook has been appointed vice president of marketing and creative services. This is a new position and a fitting reward for her ten years of service to the University. Amy, husband Marshall, and four children reside in Lynn, Massachusetts.” Congratulations, Amy!
We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Mary “Lennie” Catherine Banks, who passed away on Feb. 20. Gwen May notifies us that the 2014 Annual Town Report is now available in both written and online (www.swansisland.org) formats.
The Annual Town Meeting is Monday, March 2, in the school gymnasium. Coffee and doughnuts are available during registration, and the meeting begins at 9 a.m. Lunch may be purchased during the break, and proceeds go to our kids through PIK. Bev McAloon informs us that in lieu of the Historical Society Board’s March meeting, they will have a display of old photos at the Annual Meeting that need identification. Reminisce, identify and join the fun.
Donna Wiegle, Sonja Philbrook and many others encourage our high school seniors to take advantage of the scholarships available to them for college study. Rep. Walter Kumiega’s recent legislative email update included information about the Mitchell Scholarship for Maine students; the scholarship award amount is $8,000, and 140 scholarships will be awarded in 2015. The Maine Sea Coast Mission, the Island Institute and the Maine Community Foundation also provide scholarships, and most have application deadlines of April 1. Please speak to one of us for more information.
The Municipal Advisory Council meets on Tuesday, March 3, at 6 p.m. in the library. The public is welcome to attend.
The next Senior Luncheon is on Wednesday, March 11, in the school cafeteria from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The traditional St. Patrick’s Day menu of corned beef and cabbage will be served.
