D.C. visit a Capitol trip

The Longfellow students are back from their D.C. trip and were tuckered out but happy with their experience when they hopped on Beal and Bunker’s Double B to get home Friday evening. They started off their trip with the locals, having dinner with Jim Singerling and Buzzy Day; the weather was perfect for exploring Mount Vernon; and the Spy Museum seemed to be the highlight of the trip for many of the kids. Now that they’ve been to the Capitol, quiz the students on what they’ve learned!

The Cranberry Isles Town Office has moved back to the center of Islesford, The former post office-Islesford store has been completely remodeled. The post office remains; the rest has been turned into a lounge across from Joy Sprague’s postal window, and the town office in separated space.

Islesford Library Tea included Ashley Bryan, Ann Fernald, Paul Fernald, Peter Philbrook, Serena Spurling, Marian Baker, Nancy Shaw, Sally Rowan, David Thomas, Katie Fernald, Erin Fernald Gray, with Zinnia, River, Quinn, Phoebe, Briggs Gray and Luciana Pickering, Daniel Schuch and Cory Duggan. Apologies to anyone missed! The blueberry cake was enjoyed by all, and all of it was enjoyed. Thank you, Cindy Thomas, for making and bringing it.

Ashley read “Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt,” by Kate Messner. Kaitlyn Duggan brought seeds for a planting project. A good time was had by all. They were able to meet outside at the Neighborhood House picnic table!

A chance to “meet and greet the babies” will be offered at the Community Center on Saturday, May 12, at noon. Three beautiful island babies were born this winter, and due to weather conditions, baby showers were postponed. This is the perfect time to welcome twins Brigid and Padraig Powell and Liam Stubbs into our community. Please bring potluck finger foods, and if you feel inclined, a gift for the little ones.

The Manset parking lot opens Thursday, May 24, in time for Memorial Day weekend. The Sutton will open its season that day. Welcome back, summer!

The Ladies Aid will throw a chicken barbecue on Saturday, May 26, at 6 p.m. Corey Alley, the “Islesford grillmaster,” will “man” the grills, and Ladies Aid members will provide an assortment of side dishes and a surprise dessert to top off the evening. Come on down. Dinner costs $10 for adults and $5 for those 5-12. Anyone under 5 eats for free!

June 1 is the date of an upcoming dental clinic at the Islesford Library. Open wide!
